I had been dreaming about a Belle inspired session when I first heard that Disney was working on the live action movie for Beauty and the Beast a couple years ago. I knew my oldest daughter would make a perfect model for the session. Having a photographer as a mother means that my children have had to endure endless hours of modeling, posing, and location scouting for me. Now that my girls are older, they enjoy being in front of the camera a lot more often, which is a great blessing for me. I love getting creative with them, and it makes for great bonding moments.
Since my daughter is beginning her teenage years, I wanted the session to express the emotions and changes that occur when a girl transforms from an adolescent to an adult. It’s such a challenging time, and it’s something we can all relate to.
To make the session everything I had envisioned, I enlisted some help from professionals in my area. My daughter had her hair and makeup done professionally and I had a set stylist help with the details and props.
The best part of Beauty and the Beast is the story conveys true beauty is not what’s on the outside but what’s in our hearts. It’s important to me my girls know that how we view ourselves and how we treat others speaks more loudly than what our outside appearances are.
